Divinity: The Bible App · Last updated: June 21, 2026
We built Divinity to help people grow in their faith. We collect only what's necessary to make the app work, we never sell your data, and we never will.
1. Who We Are
Divinity: The Bible App is developed and operated by Clarity Apps LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), the data controller for personal information collected through this app. If you have any questions about this policy, you can reach us at support@clarityapps.info.
2. What We Collect
We collect the minimum information needed to provide the app's features:
Account information — if you create an account, we store your name and email address via Firebase Authentication (Google).
Profile data — your display name and avatar, stored in Firestore and linked to your account. If you choose a custom avatar photo from your photo library, that image is uploaded and stored as part of your profile.
Faith journey information — during onboarding, we ask about your faith background and spiritual goals. This information is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
Community content — prayer requests you choose to post are stored in Firestore and visible to other users. Prayer requests are automatically deleted after 30 minutes.
Scripture Chat messages — messages you send in the Scripture Chat feature are transmitted to Anthropic's API to generate responses. These messages are not stored on our servers. Anthropic may retain them for up to 30 days for trust and safety purposes per their privacy policy.
Device identifier — an anonymous device ID is used to enable features for users who have not created an account, such as posting anonymous prayer requests. This ID is not linked to your personal identity.
Purchase information — if you subscribe, payment is handled by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We use RevenueCat to manage and verify subscription status. RevenueCat receives your device identifier, app version, platform, and purchase history (product ID and transaction timestamps) to perform this verification. We never see or store your payment card details.
Crash and diagnostic data — crash reports and diagnostic information are collected by Firebase Crashlytics (Google) to help us identify and fix technical issues. This data includes device type, OS version, app version, and a stack trace of the crash. It does not include your personal content or message history.
Usage preferences — settings like dark mode and font size are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage and never transmitted to our servers.
3. What We Don't Collect
Your personal Bible reading notes, bookmarks, and highlights are stored only on your device and are never uploaded to our servers.
We do not collect your location.
We do not use advertising SDKs or sell data to advertisers.
We do not track you across other apps or websites.
We do not collect payment card details — all payments are processed by Apple or Google.
4. How We Use Your Information
To create and maintain your account.
To display your name and avatar in community features you opt into.
To provide Scripture Chat responses through Anthropic's API.
To verify your subscription and unlock premium features.
To respond to support requests you send us.
To diagnose and fix technical issues through crash reporting.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the app.

Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
Firebase Authentication & Firestore (Google) — account authentication and community data storage. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit by Google. Firebase Privacy Policy
Firebase Crashlytics (Google) — crash reporting and diagnostics. Collects device type, OS version, app version, and crash stack traces. Does not collect personal content. Firebase Privacy Policy
RevenueCat — subscription management. Receives your device identifier, app platform, app version, and purchase history (product ID, transaction timestamps) to verify subscription status. RevenueCat Privacy Policy
Apple App Store / Google Play — payment processing for subscriptions. We do not receive your payment card details.
Anthropic Claude API — powers the Scripture Chat feature. Messages you send in chat are transmitted over TLS-encrypted connections to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Anthropic does not use API-submitted data to train its models. Chat data may be retained by Anthropic for up to 30 days for trust and safety review. Anthropic Privacy Policy
7. International Data Transfers
Clarity Apps LLC is based in the United States. If you are located in the EEA, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with data transfer restrictions, your personal data will be transferred to and processed in the United States by our service providers (Google/Firebase, RevenueCat, Anthropic).
We rely on the following safeguards for these transfers:
Google (Firebase, Crashlytics) — transfers are covered by Google's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) adopted under EU Commission Decision 2021/914.
RevenueCat — transfers are covered by RevenueCat's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Anthropic — transfers are covered by Anthropic's data processing agreement and applicable SCCs.
You may request a copy of the applicable transfer safeguards by contacting us at support@clarityapps.info.
8. Automated Processing
The Scripture Chat feature uses Anthropic's Claude AI model to generate responses to your messages. Only the messages you send within a chat session are included in requests to Anthropic — your onboarding faith background is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted. This processing does not produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
9. Data Retention
Your account data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Profile → Settings → Delete Account), which removes your Firebase Authentication record, Firestore profile data, and all community content associated with your account.
Prayer requests are automatically deleted after 30 minutes. Crash diagnostic data is retained by Firebase Crashlytics for 90 days. Subscription records are retained by RevenueCat for the duration required by applicable tax and accounting law. Scripture Chat messages are not stored by us; Anthropic may retain them for up to 30 days per their policy.
Upon account deletion, we will request deletion of your data from RevenueCat within 30 days. We cannot guarantee deletion of data held by Anthropic beyond our API relationship; please contact Anthropic directly at anthropic.com/privacy for requests specific to their retention.
10. Children's Privacy
Divinity is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you have the following rights regarding your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@clarityapps.info. We will respond within 45 days. For complex or numerous requests, we may extend this period by an additional 45 days and will notify you.
All users:
Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Correction — request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
Deletion — request that we delete your personal data. You can also delete your account directly in-app (Profile → Settings → Delete Account).
Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent (e.g., community posts), you may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of prior processing.
EEA and UK residents (GDPR):
Data portability — receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format (e.g., JSON or CSV) and transmit it to another controller where technically feasible.
Restriction of processing — request that we restrict how we use your data while a dispute is resolved.
Object to processing — object to processing based on legitimate interests. We will cease processing unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests.
Automated decision-making — you have the right not to be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects. As noted in Section 8, Scripture Chat does not produce such effects.
Lodge a complaint — you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (DPA). In the EU, find your DPA at edpb.europa.eu. In the UK, contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
12. California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the CPRA:
Know — the categories of personal information we collect, the purposes for which it is used, and the categories of third parties with whom it is shared.
Delete — request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
Correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information.
Opt out of sharing — we do not sell your personal information. We do share personal information with third-party service providers (Firebase, RevenueCat, Anthropic) as described in Section 6 for operational purposes. To opt out of the sharing of your personal information with these providers beyond what is strictly necessary to operate the app, contact us at support@clarityapps.info. Note that opting out of sharing with Anthropic will disable the Scripture Chat feature.
Non-discrimination — we will not deny you services, charge you different prices, or provide a degraded level of service because you exercised any of these rights.
Categories of personal information collected (CCPA taxonomy):
Identifiers — name, email address, device identifier, Firebase user ID.
Commercial information — subscription status, purchase history (product ID, transaction timestamps, via RevenueCat).
Internet or other electronic network activity information — crash logs and diagnostic data (via Firebase Crashlytics).
User-generated content — prayer requests posted in the community, Scripture Chat messages.
To exercise your California rights, email support@clarityapps.info. We will respond within 45 days. We will not require you to create an account to submit a request.
13. Security
We take the following measures to protect your information:
Encryption in transit — all data transmitted between the app and our servers (Firebase, Anthropic, RevenueCat) uses TLS 1.2 or higher. No personal data is transmitted over unencrypted connections.
Encryption at rest — data stored in Firestore is encrypted at rest by Google using AES-256 by default.
Access controls — Firestore security rules restrict data access so that users can only read and write their own profile and content. No employee of Clarity Apps LLC has routine access to user personal data.
Faith data minimization — faith context is stored on your device and transmitted to Anthropic only when you actively use Scripture Chat; it is not stored on our servers.
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you and relevant regulatory authorities within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, as required by applicable law.
14. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where required by law, notify you via email or in-app notice before the changes take effect. Continued use of the app after the effective date of material changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
